Passage 1: Dashboards and Decisions Public dashboards can make complex information easier to examine, but visibility does not automatically produce understanding. A chart may be accurate and still mislead if its scale hides variation or if a headline ignores uncertainty. Good dashboards therefore explain where data came from, when they were updated and what they cannot show. They also allow users to compare like with like. The aim is not to remove judgement from decision-making; it is to give judgement a clearer foundation. Question: Why should a dashboard state when data were updated?
